Lodge lunch then back to Bend
I woke up this morning to the buzz of a nearby RV's generator. Ah, nature. It didn't bother me because I caught some great sleep last night after expending my energy hiking around yesterday. Once all three of us were up and around we ate some breakfast then packed up our vehicles. Before leaving the campsite I gassed up along with a large gang of weekend bikers and a flock of huge moths that supposedly only show up here once every three years. Too bad they chose to hang around the same place with so many vehicles because the ground was littered with squished little bodies of the moths. Hopefully those ones enjoyed a little mating before biting it on the hot pavement.
We completed the loop around Crater Lake by stopping at the popular view point and lodge at the west end of the caldera rim. I took tons of panoramic photos before we headed into the lodge for lunch. We arrived with perfect timing before lunch service began at 11:30am and only stood in line briefly before being seated and served some fantastic food. I had a vegetarian sandwich with portabella mushrooms that were marinated to perfection and served with other veggies on focaccia bread. Best I've ever had! After lunch we all headed down the road back to Bend with only a brief stop at the Pumice Desert just down the north slope from Crater Lake. We followed Mandy back to her place and had some BBQ steak and salmon with her beau Terry. His daughter joined us while we viewed some photos of our trip then left before the rest of us enjoyed a viewing of Napoleon Dynamite.

Great pictures. I need to go to Crater Lake one of these days.
That panorama looks almost plastic-fake. I know it's not, but the color saturation on the blues is just insane.

Wow. I'm inspired. Gavin and I have to get out and experience the great outdoors before the summer is gone! Thanks for sharing your trip.
