Green power from a gross source?

A recent demonstration put on in Fife could usher in a new era of diesel fuel creation. Or it could be a complete hoax. The Trib has an article that raises some concerns over a process that mixes garbage with some petrolium oil to create diesel to be sold for half the current cost at the pump. From the article:

The demonstration began with Green Power employees grinding up a mixture of paper, plastic and other household garbage. They then added a type of petroleum oil to the dried garbage and poured the black, gooey mixture into the mini fuel-to-waste plant.

Minutes later, golden diesel poured out of the plant’s spout and into a bucket.

Speculation about the process remains and the slightly dashy past of its creator could point to more questions. Nevertheless, the prospect of a plant that produces diesel so cheaply and that generates its own power is a pretty tantalizing one. If everything works out, we could see a facility being created on private Puyallup Reservation land. Personally, I'd really like to know what that "petroleum oil" was they added to the garbage and what kinds of waste products are produced.

Kinda' makes me think of good ol' Mr. Fusion from Back to the Future II -- but not as convenient.
