Nordstrom Knows How To Gala (and Open)

Rumor mill
Just a couple quick hits gleaned from whispers around town. Yes, I hear whispers. Not dead people though.
When Two Koi?
Took a peek inside the future Two Koi restaurant and posted pics below. Looks like there's plenty of work to be done but I hear it could only be a matter of a couple weeks before opening. Sounds like they have plenty of staff so just need to finish up the space.
Straight 17th Street
Some planners have recently considered cutting 17th Street from Pacific directly up to Broadway. This would kill quite a few parking spots and speed up traffic through the area. With the recent public spaces recommendations that include slowing traffic downtown, hopefully this idea will never get paved.
Got a tip or rumor? Send 'em over.

Wow, that 17th Street idea is horrible...since when was S 17th a major route up the hill at all?

Not sure. Having a street run through there would certainly put a damper on our public spaces groups idea for a set of stairs there.

Why don't they finish making 21st an arterial up to Yakima. It is wierd how you have a major highway end and then the street turns into a small road after Jefferson. You then get to risk your life crossing Tacoma Ave. (you have to be 1/3 into oncoming lanes to see if it is clear.

Jake: That's true -- it's a strange constriction of what you'd think would be a pretty major road heading up the hill. An additional light or two would seriously help at those intersections as well. That and maybe some bulgy mirrors (there and elsewhere) to help see over the hill at those intersections.

Everyone's anticipating Two Koi opening up and doing well.
Pacific Plaza would be improved much by having restaurants on its edge spill onto the plaza. If Two Koi had seating outside, that would be even better for the plaza.

So long as folks know where they can park nearby I'm sure it'll do well. I'd suggest taking the Link but the darn thing doesn't run late enough for the budding night life around town.
Maybe we and local business owners should petition to keep the Link running a bit later into the night.

To answer Erik: We will have outside dinning next year. We do have private large party dining and conference rooms available. Hope to see everyone soon. Fingers crossed, we'll be open mid Sept.

Mai-Lee: That's exciting to hear! From what I've peeked at your new space it looks like it could be wonderful. My wife and I are really looking forward to a place we can meet for the occasional sushi during the work week.
Good luck to you!
